SINGING IS GOOD FOR YOU!

"Singing increases the level of endorphins in the brain, so it makes you feel good. Singing in a group is better for well-being than doing it alone as it builds confidence, it gives a sense of community and it's great fun".

No doubt you will have some questions. We have listed below some of the most commonly asked questions and the answers. If this list does not address your query please feel free to contact us via the "Contact Us" page.

1) Is there any cost involved?

2) Do I need to be able to read music?

3) Do I need any previous experience of singing with a choir or chorus?

4) What commitment do I have to make?

5) Will we have a chance to show our relations and friends what we have learned, after the course?

6) Why is Rainy City Chorus (Greater Manchester Barbershop Harmony Club) organising the course and what do they hope to get out of it?

1) Is there any cost involved?

You will be asked for a £10 deposit (payable in cash or by cheque) at the door on your first visit. This will be fully refundable to those who attend at least 3 of the 6 evenings, or will otherwise go to our local charity Willow Wood Hospice.

2) Do I need to be able to read music?

No. You will be provided with “teach tapes” for each part (lead, tenor, baritone and bass) from which you will be able to learn the songs by heart. In addition, sheet music will be available for those who can read music.

3) Do I need any previous experience of singing with a choir or chorus?

No. If you have such experience, that’s great. But total beginners will be equally welcome.

4) What commitment do I have to make?

None, really. However in order to get the most out of this "learn to sing in harmnony" experience we strongly recommend to attend at least 4 of the 6 evenings, preferrably all 6 of course.

5) Will we have a chance to show our relations and friends what we have learned, after the course?

Yes! We plan to have a mini-concert on the last evening (i.e. June 9th) when you can bring your friends and relations. We all will perform the songs you have learned, plus perhaps some other selected songs performed by the "regulars".

6) Why is Rainy City Chorus (Greater Manchester Barbershop Harmony Club) organising the course and what do they hope to get out of it?

Rainy City Chorus is organising the course, funding it, and providing the coaches. The aim is to stimulate interest in harmony singing among men attending the course, and give them a taste of the fun and excitement that the hobby has to offer. It’s hoped that some of the men attending will subsequently choose to join Rainy City Chorus, but there is absolutely no obligation in this respect.
